Waist Deep and Sinking Fast

I wish I’d been blogging when the war with Iraq broke out, because this would be an ideal time to say “Told ya so.” It seems the Shiites in Iraq are adding yet another challenge to the mess the Bush administration has made of Iraq; demanding that the drafters of Iraq’s constitution be chosen through national election.

It sounds a bit too democratic for the Bush administration to allow, though. And naturally the Sunnis – Arab and Kurd – are opposed to such a measure that would ensure a Shiite victory in pushing through the language they favor, and a proces that would take two more years. Remember, an Iraqi constitution is a preqquisite for ending the occupation.

Of course, one recalls that just before the Iraq invasion that Bush himself didn’t know who the Shiites and Sunnis were, so he couldn’t have imagined that there might be problems between them. Could he?
