Stupid Parents
Here’s something I don’t get about the Elizabeth Smart story. Don’t get me wrong, I’m relieved that she was found and has been returned to her family. But when I heard the story of how she was abducted I had one question:
What were her parents thinking, hiring homeless people off the street to work in their home, around their children?
I understand wanting to help people, but I’d have to draw the line at picking up a stranger off the street whom I know nothing about and bringing them into my house around my son.
Why, I ask, is no one else asking this question? And while I’m at it, here’ a few more.
If the Smarts had been a poor Black or Latino family, done the same thing, and had their daughter abducted, would they have been investigated for child endangerment? Would they have custody of their other children still? Would people and the media have cared as much about Elizabeths disappearance?
Just askin’.

The Smart’s are Mormon, from what I’ve heard giving work to the homeless is fairly common. Like you said, nice gesture, maybe not a great idea when you have young kids in the house.
As to your othr question…how many black / latino kids do you figure have gone missing since she did? How many have you heard of? I don’t think this is totally a racial issue though. The Smarts are apparently quite wealthly and they spared no expense working the media for help. I’m sure a black / latino family with the same wealth would do the same thing. Would they get the same exposure? I’m not sure. The fact that Elizabeth Smart looked like a Barbie doll was certainly in her favor here.

brought up on endangerment charges !!!

Sorry , but i am so angry with these
2 naive , poor excuses for parents!
Believe me my heart went out to them for
the pain they were feeling those 9 months
for that sweet child Elizabeth….but a huge
part of the blame for this has to go to
Mr. and Mrs. Smart…ehh Stupid . YOU DON’T

my dad really is horrible to me he stole £50 off me that i saved up when i went on holiday he is a fat gobiling dik head p.s theres loads of other bad things he’s done to find out come and chat to me on my msn please i really need your help

I have to say that I’m surprised to see someone else with the same name as me. Especially since we seem to share in common having truly horrible fathers.
