A year ago today our son was born, but we didn’t know it. It’s odd to think that a year ago today, I wasn’t a Dad yet, and had no idea that I was about to become one. He was two days old when we found out we were being considered – along with 15 other families – to be his adoptive parents, three days old when we found out we’d been chosen and left town to go and get him, and four days old when we finally picked him up from the hospital.
But a year ago today, we had no clue what was about to happen. We were preparing for a 1 week vacation in San Francisco during the week of Thanksgiving. Needless to say, those plans got changed.
We had a nice little party for him at the house yesterday, with some friends of ours and some of their kids. Parker enjoyed being the center of attention, even if he wasn’t sure why all those people were at his house. He even stood up by himself a few times, and took a step or two on his own. I have a feeling that he’ll be walking by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
A year. It seems like ages ago to me.
A year from now, all traces of your “baby” will be gone and you’ll have a full-fledged toddler racing around. You’ll look back at pictures of his first birthday and wonder at how fast it goes. And I have it on good authority that each year passes faster and faster, and that it is a matter of too little time before kiddo isn’t a kid anymore. *sigh*
