My friend Hope has a post up addressing how the Republicans seem to have abandoned fiscal conservatism or shrinking the federal government, and I thought I’d add my two cents.
It strikes me as odd that we’ve gone back to deficit spending, and that the federal government has grown larger – rather than smaller – while supposed conservatives are running the joint. They have the House, the Senate and the White House, and it’s a non-election year.
I suspect that the Republicans of today are more concerned with social conservatism than anything else, and that it might end up backfiring on them. My sense is that most Americans are not as socially conservative as today’s Republican leadership.
