Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has been awarded the ‘Foot in Mouth’ Award – from Britain’s Plain English Campaign, for this response to a question at a press briefing on Iraq:
“Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns, there are things we know we know,” Rumsfeld said.
“We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger got an honorable mention for:
“I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.”
If nothing else, the Republicans are proving good for comic relief. After seeing what their policies are doing to this country and the rest of the world, we could all use a laugh.
