Color of the Day – Orange

So the Dept. of Homeland Security has raised the alert level to “Orange.” And just in time for holiday travel, too. Honestly, I can’t say that I even know which color means a higher alert than what other color, except to say that orange must mean a higher alert than yellow, because that’s what the alert level was before.

The more cynical part of me tends to think that these alert levels get raised arbitrarily, because all we ever hear is some vague reports about an unspecified, unnamable threat. So I tend to think the powers that be issue these alerts when they need to raise the level of fear amonst the public.

Either way, I’ve decided that if there is a terrorist attack and I find myself in the middle of it, there’s probably very little I can do to prepare for it or stop it. If it happens it happens, and I just have to get on with my life and see what comes.

I’m with you. I think this is to make people think “Bush is on the job, even during the holidays.” Threat from whom? Where? Who says? I want proof, dammit, not just Tom Ridge’s vague speculations.

  2. Kim says:

FEAR, FEAR, FEAR! It works everytime! To be honest with you, if something was going to happen, I wouldn’t want to know but that’s just me. I’m not about to compromise my life and have to always look over my shoulder.

Oh and the next level is Red, meaning ‘too late to do anything about it’

  3. sam says:

Yeah, be very afraid! but to cancel holiday plans and not stimulate the economy is simply un-American!

  4. Tim Who? says:

I’m at a point where I can’t trust anything Bush or his administration says.
Everything they say is a lie.

    Why should I believe this.
    I don’t.
