Bigot Bush Backs Ban

No surprises here, but Bush is backing the constitutional ammendment banning gay marriage. So this how he practices being a “uniter,” by supporting the writing of bigotry and discrimination into the constitution.

Citing an “overwhelming consensus in our country” against same-sex marriage, President Bush on Tuesday called for a constitutional amendment banning gay wedlock.

The president’s action comes as Massachusetts nears a court-imposed deadline to recognize gay marriage, and as San Francisco and a New Mexico county issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

“Unless action is taken we can expect more arbitrary court decisions, more litigation, more defiance of the law by local officials, all of which adds to uncertainty,” the president said.

“On a matter of such import, the voice of the people must be heard,” Mr. Bush said. “Activist courts have left the people with one recourse. … Our nation must enact a constitutional amendment to defend marriage.”

… The president said the federal amendment should ban gay marriage, but allow states to make other arrangements for gays — potentially opening the door for civil unions.

Mr. Bush said the ban would not compromise efforts to protect gay rights. Gay rights advocates disagreed.

What Bush and supporters of the ammendment seek to do is to create a legal second class of citizenship on the federal level, denying gay & lesbian couples access to the 1,049 various rights and protections granted under federal law, based on marital status.

Whatever will the Log Cabin Republicans do now? Sorry, but any gays who can still bring themselves to vote for Bush have got to have some deep personal issues that need resolving.

  1. Tim Who? says:

    Gay Marriage?
The Defense of Marriage Act, designed expressly to prohibit such a scenario, was passed by a Republican Congress and President Clinton in 1996.

This didn’t stop the Vermont Supreme Court, legislature, and governor from establishing “civil unions,” the euphemism for gay marriage

“The president said the federal amendment should ban gay marriage, but allow states to make other arrangements for gays — potentially opening the door for civil unions.”

    BULLSHIT

The Federal Marriage Amendment, would bar any state from enacting same-sex marriage, forbid any arrangement designed to give gays equal marriage benefits, and destroy any conceivable claim that conservatives truly believe in states’ rights.

Every time Bush opens his mouth it Lie Lie Lie.
