A bomb has destroyed an entire Baghdad hotel.
A powerful explosion, apparently from a car bomb, went off Wednesday night in central Baghdad, killing 28 people and wounding at least 40 others, senior U.S. military officials said.
The blast virtually destroyed the Mount Lebanon Hotel and damaged a number of nearby houses and offices.
The explosion left a 20-foot crater as the hotel erupted into flames.
What’s perhaps most chilling is the reaction of Iraqi’s at the scene of the bombing.
Iraqi police and coalition soldiers cordoned off the area. U.S. soldiers attempted to help rescue victims but were driven back by angry Iraqis.
