Mixed Emotions

PlanetOut has another article concerning gay & lesbian reaction to Reagan’s death.

“I’m still shocked, appalled and saddened by his total lack of action on HIV and AIDS,” Mixner said. “And I think that failure of leadership cost a lot of people their lives.”

“We wonder today how far we would be in solving the AIDS crisis if Reagan had both recognized the scope of the tragedy and had more respect for the plight of gay men who were dying by the thousands from AIDS,” said HIV-positive gay radio host Jon Beaupre to news service AFP.

AFP pointed out that Reagan died on the 21st anniversary of a Centers of Disease Control report that chronicled the death of five Los Angeles-area men who had died from a rare form of pneumonia.

It was the first federal mention of what was to become the AIDS crisis.
