It’s Official

It’s official. John Kerry wants to win. Evidence: his choice John Edwards as a running mate. Inasmuch as Veep candidates can help win an election, I think Edwards was the most obvious choice. I don’t know that much about him, but I know I didn’t support him in the primary, and that was probably based mostly on gay & lesbian issues. However, I’m willing to bet a Kerry-Edwards ticket will still be miles ahead of a Bush-Cheney ticket on gay and lesbian equality. He may not help Kerry win North Carolina (I think the Dems officially lost the South when Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act), but he may help energize the base, and that may help Kerry win. That is, if the Pubs haven’t already stolen Florida, and if the Bush administration isn’t holding back a “war on terror”-related October Surprise.

I think the Southern Baptist preacher voice will really help Kerry a lot. Even in the south–eps. places where folks (Black or white) are poor and have kids in the military.
I am really glad it’s Edwards. Best news in weeks!

Unfortunately, Kerry and Edwards are about as on target with gay/lesbian issues as any candidate who wants to be elected can be. Hopefully that will change soon though.
