Anderson, We Hardly Knew Ye…

Apparently, my previous post about Anderson Cooper was wishful thinking. That transcript of the convo with Falwell? It was incurate according to reports.

COOPER: But there are a lot of gay families out there, Reverend Falwell, there are a lot of gay families out there. I think there are like a million kids being raised by gay parents who say that if you want to protect families, you know, civil unions will give inheritance rights, will give Social Security, survivor benefits rights to…

FALWELL: Anderson, that’s all a red herring. If you want to leave something to your cat, you can do that in your will…

COOPER: It’s not a red herring. That’s simply not true. It’s not true. You know you pay taxes.

FALWELL: Are you telling me that two men living together cannot make a will out, each of them…

COOPER: They can, but they don’t have the same survivor benefits and health insurance benefits in many state, in your state. They get taxed more heavily than a straight married couple does.

And I was so hoping that Anderson was batting for my team. Who knows? He may yet be, but this apparently isn’t the coming out it seemed to be.

Meanwhile, the rest of the conversation shows just how ignorant Fallwell and his ilk are. The truth is that having a will—which is a smart idea anwyay—does not give you all the same rights and protections as a married couple. Not even close. No combination of legal documents can even come close.

I smell transcript touch-up. Too many girlie fans of Anderson Cooper to let that cat out of the bag.

    T.

The Raw Story story says “sources connected with the network stand by previous statements indicating that Cooper has been open with his sexuality for some time among friend.” So, I think he’s yours, if you want him.

  3. Andy Says:

Yeah - I thought he was officially out. But not ‘out and about’. Out like B.D. Wong out. Only less so.
