Close Call

So I while doing a little holiday shopping this evening, I noticed a lot of iPod accessories for sale. When I got up to the register, I had the following exchange with the cashier.

“You don’t sell iPods here, do you?”

“Yes,” he answered, “They’re just not on display. A sales associate has to get one for you. If you’d like me too…” And he took a step away from the register, as if to run to the back and get and iPod.

“No, no,” I said, “That’s OK. I don’t think I’ll buy one today. I just wondered what kind you have. ”

“We have the 20GB model,” he answered.

“OK, well that’s good to know.”

And with that, I grabbed my purchases and hurried out the door.

It was a narrow escape, but I can’t run from this iPod craze forever. Can I?

Anyway, it’s highly likely that I will make the switch to the iPod at some point. But I’m holding out a bit. My current player holds 40GB. Granted, I’ve only filled up about 15GB with music, but I’m not sure I want to scale back to 20GB. So, if I get an iPod, I’m holding out for the 40GB model. Of course, 20GB iPod costs the same amount as my current player, and the 40GB iPod costs much more. So, if I’m gonna splurge, it’ll be for the 40GB iPod.

Oh, yeah. And the iTunes music store now accepts PayPal.

You know I hate hype. I bought an iRiver - damned thing crapped out after 6 months. Ron got me a Mini - it really is a fanastic little device. I’m nowhere near an Apple Cultist - but I love simplicity and elegance in design - form/function. The iPod Mini is great. You deserve it. So does the hubbie. It really lives up to it’s hype.
