Podding Along

Another update. The first batch of tunes is now on the iPod. My first attempt at transferring tunes over last night was unsucessful, but restarting my computer was apparently all it took to do the trick. I put the iPod in the dock, iTunes popped up and informed that music was being transferred.

What didn’t work so well was importing the music I bought from the RealPlayer music store into iTunes. It just didn’t work. I then attempted to import the songs onto the iPod using RealPlayer, and while the program told me that the songs were transferring, when I tried to listen to them on the iPod I heard nothing. I tried to listen to an entire album, and the iPod just zipped right through from the first song to the last without making a sound. So I guess my iPod is new enough to have been affected by Apple’s attempt to stop Real Networks from hacking its way into their format, etc. Either that or I didn’t do it right. Either way, I’ve decided it’s easier to burn the songs to CD and then rip them into iTunes.

Further iPod updates as events warrant.

Podding Along

So, I successfully loaded songs onto the iPod last night. The first time I tried it, nothing happened. So I restarted my computer, put the iPod in its dock, and iTunes popped up and did the rest. Pretty simple so far. I’m still ripping CDs into iTunes. I think the only thing that might improve the iPod would be if I could rip songs directly to it, rather than put them on my hard drive first. (To have 40GB of music on the iPod, I’d have to have 40GB of music on my hard drive first.)

Other than that, I’m firguring out the controls on the iPod, which are easy for the most part. The next step is to reconstruct my playlists. By Monday, I should have completely made the transfer.

Oh, and I’ve already been advised to use earphones other than the ones that came with the iPod, when I’m computing to work. Apparently it’s a bit gauche to wear the iPod headphones on the Metro. I’ve written about that before. Anyway, I already have headphones that I think I like better than the iPod ‘phones.

If you use iTunes for all your playlists, they should all transfer seamlessly unto your iPod. I don’t like the earbuds that comes with the iPod. I’m using my fav headphones (and they’re orange!), so most people don’t even know I have an iPod.

What headphones do you use, T? I need to get some new ones for my Rio.
