The Pod

Just an update. I spent much of my spare time over the weekend eithe burning to CD the music I purchased from RealPlayer’s music store, or ripping CD’s into iTunes. I discovered one bonus during this process. I thought for sure I’d have to enter the titles and other ID3 tags for every song I burned from RealPlayer, but I found that in most cases—where I’d purchased an entire album from RealPlayer and burned it to a single CD—iTunes detected all of that information automatically. In cases were I’d purchased a few songs individually, without getting an entire album, I figured it was easier to just re-purschase them from iTunes.

After one weekend, I’ve put about 2,134 songs on the iPod, and I’m not done yet. There’s a stack of CDs sitting on my desk at home right now, waiting to be ripped into iTunes, and every trip back to my collection results in a few more that I’d like to have on the iPod. Who knows how many I’ll have by the time I’m done? My favorite playlist is mostly reconstructed. It’s called “Vox” and has about 768 songs in it representing some of my favorite pop and jazz vocalists. I can keep it on random play and always have something I want to listen to. (The only other playlists I’ve reconstructed are “70’s,” “80’s,” and “Disco.”

Today was my first day venturing out with the iPod rather than the Nomad Zen (which I’m keeping as a back-up for the iPod, in case it ever needs servicing or a new battery, so I won’t be entirely without music). It definitely causes much less of a bulge in my jacket pocket, that’s for sure. I’m still getting used to the controls, and figuring out how everythign works, but I was able to get my favorite playlist up and running. My only complaint is that I can control the volume when I have gloves on, and it was a rather cold day to be taking off a glove to get the desired volume level.

But so far, so good.

I’m just getting one myself, and am slowly updating my library. I guess I’m not that fierce. I still have the old Palm Pilot and a cell phone that does not take pics.

Funny, I saw a posting in Datalounge about the same thing.
