Old School Commute

I haven’t done a music post in a while, and this evening I’m in the mood. It’s day number 2 with the pod, and I’ve about got the hang of it. There have been a couple of things that caused me to go back to the user guide to figure out (playlists and stuff), but so far so good. I also came across an iPod+iTunes Quick Tips eBook that I might purchase just for a quick easy reference.

Spent more time adding music to the iPod last night. Now up to 2728 songs, or something like that. Most of the stuff I really want has been added.

Here’s a question for iPod aficionados. Did the iPod always have an equalizer function with settings for various styles of music? I thought I read somewhere when it first came out that it was lacking this function. I was glad to see that mine has it, because I like adjusting the settings to suit different kinds of music.

Last night I also reconstructed another favorite playlist. This one’s a bit nostalgic for me. It’s funny, because I’ve never been a big fan of rap music, but I heard a lot of it when I was growing up, because my younger sister was a fan. So, there are a number of old songs that are associated with moments in my past. And although I’m not a heavy listener, I can appreciate the music and the talent it requires. (Hey, it must take talent, otherwise everyone would be able to do it, and I know I can’t.)

So, on my way to work and back home today, the “Old School Rap” playlist is featured on the iPod. For those who might be interested, it contains the following (oh, and by the way, I’m open to suggestions for songs that might be added to the list):

  1. Rappers’ Delight - The Sugarhill Gang

nope, didn’t have the equalizer :( ours doesn’t, we’ve got an ‘earlier’ one.

    oh well…

  2. John Hoke Says:

I think the EQ was added to in the 3rd Gen iPods.. atleast mine is 40gb 3rd Gen and it has it :)

  3. Andy Says:

You can set individual EQ-settings (choice of preset, as it were) in iTunes, and it carries over to the iPod, so the iPod always respects this, unless you specifically set the iPod to a specific EQ.

This doubles as a way to save power on the iPod (if you ever find yourself going up against the 12 hour limit before finding an outlet); simply change the iPod’s EQ to “flat”, and the iPod won’t use EQ’s at all.

    Hope that helps ;-)
