This really doesn’t surprise me too much. The old communications director from my days at HRC is coming back on board there, in some capacity or another.
“David Smith, Kennedy’s communications director for the past 15 months, is leaving to consult for the Human Rights Campaign, a Washington-based homosexual rights advocacy group for which he used to be press secretary.”
I figured as much. A couple of weeks ago, in the aftermath of Jacques’ firing, I was walking home and walked past David coming out of the HRC building and hailing a cab. I guessed something like this was in the works, and that he’d be back in the mix at HRC one way or another. (It doesn’t hurt that Hillary Rosen, the partner of the former Executive Director Elizabeth Birch, is at the helm of the organization right now. As I recall, David and Elizabeth were pretty tight.)
It’ll be interesting to see just what tone HRC takes in the future.
