Little Man in Charge

I suppose I should have realized it when I was handed that tiny little bundle in the hospital: I’m not in charge anymore.

The process of Parker’s personality unfolding continues to confound and amaze. What’s been most striking lately is how much better he’s gotten at communicating his wishes. There are still times when he can’t do so effectively, or when we’re just incapable of giving him what he wants (like making the plane take off on time) and a meltdown ensues. But more and more often, he’s able to communicate his desire by using a few short. “commands.”

For example, this morning he grabbed me by the hand and pulled me away from the computer, saying “Come on.”

He then proceeded to walk me around the room, pointing to all the various lights in the room and saying “Light on.”

I didn’t get it the first time, and opened the curtains instead of turning the on the light. “No Daddy,” he said, pointing again to the light and saying “Light on.” Once I got it and turned the light on, he then walked me into the suite’s kitchen, pointed at the ceiling light and again uttered the command, “Light on.”

He then walked me back to the chair I was sitting in before and tells me “Sit down.” Then he hands me his current favorite book, and lifts up his arms to signal that I’m supposed to place him in my lap and read the book to him.

Good grief. Two years old and already taking charge. At this rate the kid is gonna be runing the world before he’s five. Me, I just do as I’m told. :-)

Haha. Parkers sounds adorable. No children here, unless you count my dog. She has me wrapped around her paw. :-P
