Awwwwwwww…Freak Out!!!

Is it me, or does this sound like something out of a movie?

Fed up with students’ racy moves, a principal at a California high school has taken the unusual step of canceling the rest of this year’s school dances.

Principal Jim Bennett of Lemoore Union High School said he warned students at a winter formal dance last month to either quit dirty dancing or face the possibility of not dancing at all.

But he said the students continued “freak dancing,” a form of sexually suggestive dancing that involves grinding the hips and pelvic area.

The ban on dances includes the school’s Sadie Hawkins dance in February and the junior and senior proms in the spring, but Bennett said they could be rescheduled if students modify their behavior

…One idea is to let students sign a form stating that raunchy dancing will get them kicked out.

Let me just say, I did my share of “dirty dancing” when I was in high school. However, it was all with girls because—let’s face it—as the only out gay guy I was the only guy in school they could “dirty dance” with, without worry about it going any further. I would have happily “dirty danced” with another gay boy, if I could have found one. But then, who knows where that might have led.

Part of me says, leave the kids alone. They’re young and they’re having fun. Why throw cold water on them? But then, some of the kids may need a bucket of ice water tossed on them, if only to slow them down a bit.

I’m sure I’ll have a few more reservations when it’s Parker’s turn to head out to his first school dance.

I danced too close in the 80’s. My parents danced too close in 50’s My grandparents danced too close in the 20’s. There isn’t a bit of doubt in my mind that it’s been going on for a thousand years.

He’s talking about Junior and Senior proms! You’re talking about Parkers first dance. I hope by the time Parkers a Junior or Senior you have already explained the facts of life to him.

When will society accept that 17 and 18 year olds are sexually active? How many Seniors do you really believe are virgins? 100%? My guess is it’s under 50% for sure. And it wouldn’t surprise me if it was under 10%.

The school has a right to restrict conduct at school. But cancelling dances because they are sexual in nature is stupid. They have been sexual in nature for a thousand years. And he just now figured that out?

Sounds to me like he’s pissed because he didn’t get laid when he was in school.

I agree with Tim Who? ‘Dirty Dancing’ has existed in one form or another throughout the ages. It’s always been seen as a form of courtship and is, I think, inherently sexual. If the children are dancing that way in middle school, then perhaps the head of the school has a point. In my experience however, the students who dance that way are older and mostly already sexually active.

At least holding the school dances provides the students with a save haven in which to hang out and have a good time. If the principal cancels the dances, the students will be more likely to sneak out and who knows where they’ll go? I’d say that the place they are least likely to have sex or get up to mischief is at the school dances!

Because teenagers aren’t economically able to handle the responsibilities of being sexually active in modern culture, it tries to deny them what is, really, their hormone-driven civil right to be sexual.

Priggish school authorities are the ones that should be kept away from kids’ dances!
