Damn. Actor Ossie Davis has died.
He was a Georgia boy, like yours truly, who caught the acting bug at a young age. So did I, but never coming near the heights to which Davis soared. He was one of the frist black actors whose work I became familiar with, and by which I became inspired. I was alway struck by the combination of power, gentleness, and dignity he brought to his craft. Together with his wife Ruby Dee, he was one half of an unforgettable acting team, and an abiding example of enduring black love.
He will be sorely missed.
