Legal Dreaming
It’s been a while since I’ve written about, or thought about, wanting to go to law school. Not that I’ve abandoned the idea. It’s just not the right time in my life to do it. Meanwhile, I’ve been living vicariously throught the law school experiences of people like Chris, Chase, and Falconred.
Anyway, last night I actually dreamt I was in law school. In the dream, I was meeting with a law professor, and she asked me—rather pointedly, as I remember it—why I wanted to study law. I can’t recall my exact answer but it was something like wanting to help people get justice who might not otherwise have a shot at it. The professor seemed pleased with that answer.
I couldn’t have been more surprised at the dream. Now I’m thinking it might have been a subliminal effect of walking past the George Mason University Law School on my way to and from work every day. I actually duck in there every day to get a diet coke from the vending machine on my way to the office, and I run over to get lunch from their cafeteria often enough that I think the staff there just assume I am a law student.
Funny.

I think you should go when the time is right for you. I just think with your passion you should work to free people everywhere with your sense of justice. I don’t necessarily believe that is all about criminal law, but constitutional issues, human rights issues, childrens’ issues.
But the time has to be right. I believe in the goodness of your life and soul and I know that you will know when you are ready to use your gifts in that particular direction. Right now, being a good father and partner take alot of energy.
The time will come or it won’t and that doesn’t mean you missed something. It just means you made conscious decisions. Thanks for thinking of me.
