I Knew It.

Just as I always suspected.

…in addition to fucking without reproducing, straight libertarian males also like people who Blow Shit Up. Toughness is of a piece with the straight male libertarian ethos, usually because the adherents were beaten up in high school for being huge Star Trek nerds. Joining the Republican Party and making scads of money in technology industries is their form of revenge, never mind that the Party is run by the same sort of jocky meatheads and alpha bitches who tormented them in their youth.

…The libertarian is thirsty for thrills and revenge, both of which were denied them in their adolescence, and only the Republican Party is set up to deliver them. The GOP is the party of nuclear-tipped space-launched stealthy cruise missiles which can both swim and fly and can kill the intended target without mussing the hair of the people next to him, and only cost $100 billion a copy, never mind that they don’t work. The Democrats are the party of people who want to dismantle said missiles. Not only that, but the Democrats are also the party of people of color, gay and lesbian people, people who do not speak English, disabled people, and university professors – despised minorities all, which remind the libertarians too much of their younger selves. They want to live in a fascist Heinleinian state, with lasers and hot chicks, or at least pretend they do, which for them from long habit is the same thing anyway.

One Response to I Knew It.

  1. Katharine says:

You know, if the author is counting him or herself as a member of the supposedly-inclusive Democratic party, he or she needs to take a look in the mirror, or better yet, in the dictionary regarding “sweeping generalizations.”

I am not male. I do count myself as a libertarian. I’ve no idea why the author is mixing the libertarians in with the Republican party, because if they’re in the Republican party, then they’re Republicans, and not Libertarians. (The mix of little Ls and big Ls is deliberate, BTW.)

In truth, the Libertarian party is very diverse in viewpoints. Their unifying ideal is a respect for personal liberties and autonomy. In the meetings I’ve attended in Georgia, I’ve certainly never met a single member who would qualify as a “jocky meathead.” Most have been thoughtful people, some passionate, who care about trying to improve their community so that people can live without excessive invasion of their privacy.

After reading the whole piece, I am reminded of the quote from The Princess Bride: “I do not think that word means what you think it means.” :)

Heck, it’s not fair or accurate to tar even the Republicans with that broad a brush.
