I have this problem with seeing weird stuff and immediately wanting one for myself. First it was the “smart car.” Now, thanks to Boing Boing and Fark.Com, I’ve come up with two more. These are the things I’d probably buy if I had loads of extra cash lying around.
Whoever posted about the new Reva NXG concept battery car thought is was an “ugly-ass” car, but I think it’s kinda cute. More than 200 have been sold in London without the benefit of advertising. But what’s really cool about it is that it’s “internet-ready.”]
The concept car also has what is believed to be the world’s first “wireless tablet” – an embedded appliance containing a high-resolution, touch-screen display for all fascia functions as well as a GPS navigation system, a GPRS modem for Internet and email access, and an MP3 music player.
Unfortunately, it’ll probably be a cold day (think new ice age, caused by global warming) before we see such things in the U.S., where driving an SUV is practically a patriotic duty.
If I couldn’t get my hands on one of those I might settle for the new Japanese EC-02, an electric scooter that looks perfect for zipping around the city, or even zipping over to Starbucks, come the day I find myself living in the burbs. OK. granted, it doesn’t go faster than 19 MPH, so maybe there won’t be a lot of zipping. But it clocks in at $2,000 (not an unreasonable price, IMHO), and it what it lacks in speed it makes up for with special iPod cradle, amplifier and speakers built right into the body, with a remote control build into the the right handle grip. (OK, that’s only available in a concept model right now, but I can imagine it won’t be long before it hits the streets.)
My dream car is a gas-electric hybrid. People always think I’m nuts.
