The “Disappointment to My Parents” Meme

Disappointment to my parents? Don’t get me started….

Phil of Waveflux tagged me for this one, and it looks rather interesting, as a meme I haven’t heard of yet. At this point, I’m not even sure what my answers will be. I’ll give it a shot anyway.

If I could be a scientist*: Hard sciences or soft? Nevermind, that was a bad joke. I think it’s safe to say the “hard” sciences would be a total wash for me. Never was interested in them anyway, at least not beyond mixing together whatever I could find under the sink when I was a kid. Yes, I was a joy to raise. No, I think I would have probably gone down the path of psychology or sociology. Actually, if I thought I could make a living at it, I’d take up parapsychology. Anthropology would also probably be of interest to me. Psychiatry would be right out because I am not inclined to the math or science required to go that route.

If I could be a musician*: No doubt about it, I’d model myself after Shirley Horn. I’d sing jazz standards while accompanying myself on piano, backed up by a jazz trio, playing in various cabarets and clubs. I’d become a cult favorite, and reach a popular audience only after having taken a long hiatus from performing.

If I could be a painter: Hmm. My sister is the one with the visual arts talent in the family. I can’t draw or paint anything remotely realistic, so I guess I’d have to go the abstract route. At least I start in that vein, struggle for several years until I became popular and well known, and then switch to pop art and start raking in serious cash. Like Shakespeare’s Sister, I’d make sure that when I died, whatever millions were left from sales of my work would go to most left-leaning causes I could find. Either that or I’d leave it to an organization dedicated to legalizing same-sex marriage (if it’s not already legal by then). That would certainly disappoint my parents.

If I could be an innkeeper: I have absolutely no idea how to answer this. The only innkeeper I can think of is Basil Fawlty. I don’t think I’d be him, however. I’d aspire to be more like his wife, Sybil.

And now the business of whom to tag next. Let’s see…who’s most likely to answer? OK. Jim, John, Zach, and Moby…you’re “it.”
