Andy muses about the not-so-new habit of referring to the media as “Mainstream Media” or “MSM.”
“I have started noticing that conversative blogs refer to the media as the Mainstream Media (or MSM). I alternately refer to is as the Corporate-Owned Media. I’m gonna muse on the intricacies and differences over my oatmeal.”
Having worked with Garrett for a while, I’ve pretty much had it pounded into my head not to use that phrase after hearing him inveigh against it on several occasions. I may have used it before, but I don’t anymore, in part because it’s too easy, and because I don’t want to help popularize that right-wing trend/frame. If I need to, I’ll use “major media outlets” or “traditional media” or some other phrase I cook up on the spot. “Corporate-Owned Media” sounds like another possible substitute.
I’m going to ponder this over iced-coffee for the next five minutes or so.

I try to shy away from “MSM” mostly because MSM is epidemiology talk for “Men who have Sex with Men,” and I’d hate to confuse the two.
Well I pondered it over a Fresh Raspberry Margarita and decided to continue using those lazy, lieing bastards in the press.
