Newsweek Nailed London Attacks

There’s so much stuff out there, I can’t possibly read all of it. It’s inevitable that several times a day I’ll read something I wishI’d posted. This one is interesting. Over at Booman Tribune there a post suggesting that Newsweek sniffed out suggestions of the London attack back in November. The reporters — Mike Isikoff and Mark Hosenball — wrote then:

According to a U.S. government official, fears of terror attacks have prompted FBI agents based in the U.S. Embassy in London to avoid traveling on London’s popular underground railway (or tube) system, which is used daily by millions of commuters. While embassy-based officers of the U.S. Secret Service, Immigration and Customs bureaus and the CIA still are believed to use the underground to go about their business, FBI agents have been known to turn up late to crosstown meetings because they insist on using taxis in London’s traffic-choked business center.

But it didn’t happen in November. I can’t help wondering what changed al Quaeda’s plans, since it’s likely they were behind the London attacks.

If the attacks were intended for November (or perhaps it was a ruse to throw of those the plotters knew were listening?) and didn’t come off then, maybe the London bombings werenot the real show, but merely the opening overture. And if that’s the case, in what venue with the really big show take place?

In the U.S.? Like I said before, I think it’s inevitable. They might not be able to pull off another 9/11 with hi-jacked planes. (Do theyneed to? After bringing down the WTC, what does one do for an encore?) But they’ve shown they can still make an impression where vulnerabilities exist. And clearly mass transit is vulnerable. WIth the number of people moving in and out of urban mass transit systems every day, they can’t not be vulnerable.

If you ask me, I think an attack on D.C.’s subway system — and probably New York’s too — is inevitable. That scares the shit out of me. I’ll still get up and get on the train every day. But it still scares the shit out of me.

I agree with you. Everytime Mark gets on the Metro now I get a medium sized knot in my stomach. All I can hope is that our intel somehow, someway gets better to thwart any attempts.

In the past I might have thought the US would again be the target of another major attack.
But if the bad guys watch the news and there’s reason to believe they do. Then my guess is they are sitting back laughing at the US and Bush. Commenting on the fact that Bush has done more damage to America than they ever could.

Right now we are the laughing stock of the world and have a buffoon in charge. America once the greatest nation on this earth is now the butt of jokes. And Americans traveling around the world are ashamed to admit it, many saying they are Canadian. Just so they don’t have to face the shame of being an American.

Bush has done what the terrorists could not do.
Bring this once great nation to her knees.

They need not attack again, Bush’s destruction of America is already underway and America will be lucky if it survives before his 2nd term is complete.
