My mind is now officially boggled. This is a picture of Robert Traynham. Robert likes his job, and has a great deal of respect for his boss. He’s had the same boss for eight years. His boss happens to be ultra-right-wing Senator Rick Santorum. Maybe you’re familiar with Senator Santorum. He’s quite an interesting man, who says lots of interesting things.
Santorum’s said nearly too many intersting things to count. Just recently, he blamed the Catholic Church’s child sex abuse scandal on "liberalism." He’s equated homosexuality with "man on dog" sex. He also bemoaned the Supreme Court decision that overturned sodomy laws, claiming there is no right to privacy.
This is the man Robert Traynham works for and loyally supports. Robert Traynam is gay.
In a phone call recorded by PageOneQ and blogACTIVE.com, Robert Traynham, Director of Communications for United States Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) has said he is an out gay man who completely supports the Senator.
When asked how a gay man could speak for one of the nation’s most notorious homophobes, Traynham, left, protested that has "been with the Senator for eight years." Traynham went on to say "Senator Santorum is a man of principle, he is a man who sticks up for what he believes in, I strongly do support Senator Santorum."
When pressed on whether he supported the Senator’s stands on lesbian and gay issues, Mr. Traynham abruptly ended the phone call by saying "Senator Santorum is a family man with "I have been with Senator Santorum for eight years and I am very proud to be with him."
An attempt to follow-up with a question was met with Mr. Traynham hanging up the phone.
I just bet he hung up the phone, because it’s easier than answering the question — which he never did by the way. We already know he supports Santorum. He wouldn’t have worked for him for eight years if he didn’t. The question is: why?
Why would any self-respecting out gay man work for someone who is actively working against his equality? I think the key word here is "self-respecting." I know it’s easy to pull out the self-hating label here, but what else is more applicable? He’s the Communications Director, so he has at least some responsibility for what’s coming out of Santorum’s mouth. He’s also probably worked on Santorum’s re-election campaign, making sure his boss’s wing-nuttery gets inflicted on the rest of the gay community.
Folks, come the revolution, when they finally have us line-up to board the trains to the concentration "reparative therapy" camps (where you either pass or fail, I bet), this guy will have the job of punching our tickets.
