Bush Backpedals, Loses Manliness
Anybody not see this coming? Just last year Bush said that he would fire anyone in his administration found to have been responsible for leaking information about Valerie Plame’s identity. Well, now he’s added a qualifier to that statement. He’ll fire anyone found to have committed a crime in leaking the information.
Bush said in June 2004 that he would fire anyone in his administration shown to have leaked information that exposed the identity of Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame. On Monday, however, he added the qualifier that it would have be shown that a crime was committed.
Asked at a June 10, 2004, news conference if he stood by his pledge to fire anyone found to have leaked Plame’s name, Bush answered, “Yes. And that’s up to the U.S. attorney to find the facts.”
If you ask me, at this point Bush has all but admitted that Rove is the leaker, and instead of standing by what he originally said he’s now backtracking and adding qualifiers he didn’t mention before.
Jill, Amanda and Roxanne have pointed out this interesting statement that, if you ask me, has some bearing on Bush’s recent remarks.
Real Men talk straight and they do what they say they’ll do. If a Real Man gives you his word, you can take it to the bank. Example: Karl Rove did nothing wrong. I know this, because if he had, Bush would know and if he knew, Rove would be out instantly, because Bush said so.
Far be it from me to question anyone’s, uh, “manliness,” but by this decidedly wingnut yardstick Bush doesn’t come anywhere near measuring up. Do we have to spell it out? He’s not doing what he said he would do. He’s not sticking to his word. Instead he’s changing his mind and adding conditions that weren’t part of the deal when he made his earler statement. He’s no man of his word. Back in November 2004, folks called that flip-flopping.
A “real man”? Hmph. Looks like Condi’s gonna hafta find a new husband. Me? I’m having quiche for dinner.
