OK. I think I’m finally getting a handle on this tagging business, or — as some folks like to call it — "folksonomy." I’ve fiddled with a few plugins here and there, but I think I finally settled on a combination that will allow me to do something I’ve been wanting to do on this blog, switch from caterogies to tags.
First, I needed to be able to create categories on the fly, while writing a post. It’s easy enough to create them in WordPress, but if you think of them in the middle of writing, you either have to stop and create the new category or wait until you’re done writing to create the new category and add it to the post. No more. Thanks to the Cat2Tag plugin. Not only does it allow me to create categories on the fly, it creates a weighted list of categories in the admin section for me to choose from when writing a post. I can hide and show the list at will.
That takes care of the back-end, but what about the front-end? Well, you can see the list of cagetories is gone, replaced by a weighted "tag cloude" that’s thanks to the weighted categories plugin.
Now all I need to do is add Technorati tagging. I’ll have to try the various plugins for that, or wait until Cats2Tags gets that functionality
