More evidence that Bush and his followers "create their own reality." I wrote earlier about Paul Hackett’s campaign for Ohio’s second district congressional seat (note, the button to donate to his campaign is still on the sidebar, if you haven’t hit it yet), and and interesting wrinkle that popped up in the campaign recently. Evidently, there’s a new one.
Bob Brigham of Swing State Project has the goods on how Hackett’s opponent, Jean Schmidt, lied outright about her involvement in a local scandal concerning an attempt by the owner of a financially troubled online business to get the Ohio state governmetn to sell lottery tickets via his web-based business.
Jean Schmidt, a former Republican state representative from the Cincinnati area, also appealed to the governor’s office on behalf of a Web-based lottery. Ms. Schmidt is currently running for Congress against Paul Hackett, a Democrat who served in the Iraq War.
The race has attracted national attention.
In a November, 2001, e-mail, Jon Allison, a staff member for Governor Taft, complained that Ms. Schmidt "continues to bug me on Internet lottery."
One year later, her state representative re-election campaign garnered a $1,000 donation from Mr. Ach.
Now she claims she’s never heard of one of the key players in the Ohio Coingate scandal, despite official documents showing that they testified before one another’s committees. Of course, it wasn’t long before Hackett (along with Max Cleland) was holding a press conference on the courthouse steps, with those documents in hand. Not one to let lies and corruption go undenounced, I guess. Probably the kind of person we need more of in Congress. Contributed yet?
