Least Liked on the Right
I don’t spend much time in the conservative blogosphere. Maybe I should, just on the "know thine emeny" principle, but there’s a lot of stuff I’m just not willing to sift through to for the sake of that understanding. I generally don’t venture further right than a visit to Boi from Troy or Andrew Sullivan. So I rely on those who tread where I’m loathe to go to bring back reports like this one.
Apparently, a number of conserative bloggers sent in their picks for "Least Favorite People on the Right," and the answers in the final tally were somewhat surprising. Here’s the final list, with certain names I’ve made bold for emphasis.
- Pat Buchanan
- John McCain
- Ann Coulter
- Pat Robertson
- Michael Savage
- Bill O’Reilly
- Jerry Fallwell
- Arlen Spector
- Rick Santorum
- Sean Hannity
- Bob Novack
- Tucker Carlson
- Andrew Sullivan
- Chuck Hagel
- John Voinovich
- Rush Limbaugh
- Tom Delay
- Arnold Schwarzeneggar
- George Pataki
- James Dobson
- Lincoln Chafee
- Newt Gingrich
- Ralph Reed
- Tom Tancredo
Notice anything? A fair number of pundits and "puritans" in the mix (along with an obligatory smattering of "moderates"), especially in the top ten. I find myself mostly agreeing with Boi from Troi on this one.
It’s nice to see other voices on the right objecting to James Dobson, Rick Santorum, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and Pat Buchanan and their collective attempts to impose their religious standards on the rest of us by enlarging the role of government in society.
Well, maybe except for the part about "enlarging the role of governmetn in soceity." Hey, if government can protect me and my family from discrimination, or give us legal recourse against it, I’m all for it.
I know this doesn’t count as any kind of scientific poll of conservatives, but I do wonder how it is that some of these folks are "stars" of the right if their also so disliked by some of their own. Maybe it’s just that the right wing bloggers out there aren’t quite as right as the great unwashed wingnut masses out there. Either that or the conservative bloggers aren’t cut from quite the same social conservative cloth.
Now I have just one question left. What are they gonna do with this list now that they’ve got it?

I agree that “the right wing bloggers out there aren’t quite as right as the great unwashed wingnut masses.”
Plus, bloggers by nature websurf a lot. Which means checking the pulse of the blogosphere, & hence, listening to opposite viewpoints.
IMO, that’s something right-wingers don’t usually do: consider what the other side is saying.

Here’s a frightening thought: What if this is a list of people they think are too liberal!

Did you see the follow-up?

Yeah. I saw it, but I didn’t think it was as much fun to post about. Besides, Michelle Malkin is at the top of the list. That’s too frightening to contemplate.
