Television Hits

No, this blog didn’t get mentioned on television again. But I thought it worth noting that a couple of stories/threads I’ve followed or been involved in have been getting some television attention.

Last night, Andy alerted me that Zach’s story got a brief mention on CNN Headline News. I didn’t see it, but the story of Zach’s blog was mentioned, and they spoke to one guy who had survived the LIA/R program with his sense of self intact, and one who…uh…didn’t. The latter said he was "attracted enough to women right now that I could have a relationship and have children." Well, I pity the woman that marries him, and may any future wives of his see that segment.

Also, the hubby and I were watchign Dateline last night, when they ran the usual promos for stories coming up later in the week. One of the stories they have coming up this week is on what I call the "White Woman in Trouble" phenomenon in the media. It looked like Tamika Houston and Latoyia Figueroa are two of the missing persons stories they’ll be covering on the show later this week. I’ll be interested in seeing whether they mention the efforts of Philly bloggers in the Figueroa case.

It’s really tempting to respond with a cynical sneer to the media finally acknowledging a phenomenon they’ve perpetuated to a large degree. C’mon, we all know the names. Lacie Peterson, Elizabeth Smart, Chandra, Levy, Natalie Hollaway, Laurie Hacking, Jennifer Wilbanks, etc. We got daily updates on most of them, and I began to get them mixed up because the media frenzies overlaped.

But for now I’ll just be happy that some of these other cases are going to get a little airtime. Not much compared to the ’round-the-clock coverage the cases above got, granted. But more than they would have gotten otherwise. And, I think it safe to say blogs had something to do with it.
