And I’m talking about his mouth, not his politics (as in " Indecent; risqué". I’m sure it’s been written and posted about elsewhere, but a reader sent me a link to this recent article containing a passage about one of Bush’s "blue" outbursts at his aides, concerning meeting with Cindy Sheehan.
While President George W. Bush travels around the country in a last-ditch effort to sell his Iraq war, White House aides scramble frantically behind the scenes to hide the dark mood of an increasingly angry leader who unleashes obscenity-filled outbursts at anyone who dares disagree with him.
“I’m not meeting again with that goddamned bitch,” Bush screamed at aides who suggested he meet again with Cindy Sheehan, the war-protesting mother whose son died in Iraq. “She can go to hell as far as I’m concerned!”
Bush, administration aides confide, frequently explodes into tirades over those who protest the war, calling them “motherfucking traitors.” He reportedly was so upset over Veterans of Foreign Wars members who wore “bullshit protectors” over their ears during his speech to their annual convention that he told aides to “tell those VFW assholes that I’ll never speak to them again is they can’t keep their members under control.”
White House insiders say Bush is growing increasingly bitter over mounting opposition to his war in Iraq. Polls show a vast majority of Americans now believe the war was a mistake and most doubt the President’s honesty.
“Who gives a flying fuck what the polls say,” he screamed at a recent strategy meeting. “I’m the President and I’ll do whatever I goddamned please. They don’t know shit.”
In fact, I’ve written about his outbursts before, and the suspicion that Bush is taking antidepressants to control erratic behavior and mood swings. Well. If he is on meds, that shit ain’t working. From another such outburst.
“Keep those motherfuckers away from me,” he screamed at an aide backstage. “If you can’t, I’ll find someone who can.”
Bush’s mental stability has become the topic of Washington whispers in recent months. Capitol Hill Blue first reported on June 4 about increasing concern among White House aides over the President’s wide mood swings and obscene outbursts.
I’ve always thought that there’s a whole other side of Bush — an even uglier one — that we never, ever see. His handlers make sure of that. But I think the combination of reality in Iraq being quite the opposite of Bush’s peristent happy-talk, combined with the protest on what was supposed to be his vacation, and the continued tanking of his approval ratings, are beginning to push him over the edge.
I’ve always wondered what would be the result of Bush’s "Mr. Hyde." persona went public, particularly with his religious right base. I think if Cindy Sheehan brings her protest to D.C., as has been promised, we might just get a chance to see, the mask get peeled off. Actually, I’ve always kinda hoped Bush might snap while a microphone is on or a camera is rolling.
Wouldn’t it be interesting? I’d like to think it might be the flaming end of his presidency, but I might be surprised. It might send his ratings back up. Way up.
