Rhymes With Rich
I just have to say it. Babara Bush (Dubya’s mom) is a bitch. (So you know what that makes him.)
In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I’ve talked to wants to move to Houston."
Then she added: "What I’m hearing is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed with the hospitality.
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (she chuckled)–this is working very well for them."
So, the hurricane is the best thing that ever happened to these people? Whatever she is, Babs ain’t dumb, so I can only guess that when she says stuff like this she actually means it.
I really do think that, for the most part, conservatives/Republicans really do equate wealth with virtue/morality/worthiness. That’s what makes it so easy for them to believe that the poor get what they deserve, or deserve whatever they get.
I suppose the people who made it out are the "deserving poor" and the ones who got left behind are the "undeserving poor." And if the "undeserving poor" have to sit and stew in NOLA for a few days before someone deigns to come and get them, So be it. It’s no more than what they deserve.
(Hat-tip, Americablog.)
Update: Now hear the audio at Crooks & Liars.
Update: Apparently, I’ve been Boing-Boinged.

This woman is the same, useless excuse for a human being who, at the 1992 Republican Convention, carefully removed her red AIDS ribbon before appearing anywhere near TV cameras. A jerk who truly understands the importance of “image.”

That’s just frighteningly frightening - these people are evil…

Don’t you think her “Beautiful Mind” would have kept her ugly, hateful disgusting mouth shut?
This crap from this … err… witch? rich? er… BITCH is just getting me pissed off to no end. Is there any question where Dubya gets his compassion and heart from?

Oh, it gets worse. Barbara Bush actually said, “What I’m hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overhwlemed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle)–this is working very well for them.”
Editor & Publisher was too kind to Barbara and left out some words.

Remember Marie Antionettes famous quote about cake?
I like what the “underprivileged” thought and did in response.
Personally, I can’t wait ’til that family is out of Washington.

Did not hear any chuckles in the audio…What’s up?

And to think she had a major part in shaping the mind of ‘W’.

Oh, for heavens sake, let’s not go all Kathleen Gingrich on her; we can at least do better than what that particular Republican called Hillary, mmm?
Barbara Bush has never held elected office, and she’s 80 years old. Furthermore, have all of your commenters listened to the full raw audio of her statements? Although it was an extremely poor choice of words, I think it’s clear from the prefacing bits that she was trying to praise Houston for its relief efforts, not be insensitive to the evacuees.
Bad phrasing? Absolutely. But which one of us hasn’t said something that didn’t come out quite as intended?
Mind you, I despise her son, and I’m not fond of her husband, either. Nor do I have any illusion whatsoever that the carefully-cultivated grandma image doesn’t do full justice to the iron hand in the velvet glove. I am not an advocate for the Bush family.
But you know, she’s been out of public life for a while. She didn’t have to be there. No one would’ve judged her unfavorably for not being there. I’d at least give her the benefit of the doubt that, however badly phrased, she was there trying to give support and help.
I’m not saying it’s enough. So much more needs to be done. I’m just saying that I find Michael Chertoff’s comment far more objectionable, given the role that the DHS is supposed to play.

Can someone please explain why liberals are always window shopping for something to be mad about?
Amidst the huge boondoggle that is the federal, state, and local authorities response to the gulf coast catastrophe, people are off yelling at Barbara Bush?
If you’re looking to start a movement, prioritize things in such a way that won’t leave most people scratching their heads.

I’ll try to supply an answer that your obviously limited intellect can process, but, first, perhaps you can explain (a) why a woman who has had many years of exposure to politics–four of them as first lady–and who presumably has full possession of her mental faculties, would so callously kick in the teeth people who’ve just lost everything that they own, along with any sense of stability they might have had in their old lives, and who would chuckle (!) while saying it, and (b) why an asscrust like you feels the need to liken very valid criticism of her unbelievably stupid, tasteless, and soulless remarks to a liberal witchhunt.
Oh, and to answer your question: Because right-wing bastards are always GIVING us something to be angry about. It ain’t window shopping, sweetums, when you put all of the goods out on the sidewalk for all to see.

Barb Bush thinks NOLA survivors are living the good life
I ran across a quote from Barbara Bush and a soundclip at this guy’s blog. It’s basically her going on abot how the people from New Orleans were poor so they should be psyched about getting all this free stuff. She even chuckles a little …
