Independent Gays for Janice Rogers Brown?

I officially give up. I will never understand conservative-leaning gays. Case in point, Stephen H. Miller of Independent Gay Forum (where comments and trackbacks have been turned off since I last visited; so many conservative bloggers seem to do that). I’ve been following Miller’s posts about the Miers nomination to the Supreme Court. Big surprise, he supports her confirmation. I hadn’t seen fit to comment until I saw a post today in which he appears to support even Janice Rogers Brown getting a nomination to the Supreme Court.

My current take—if she’s against excessive business regulation (and she appears to be) and has no anti-gay record (despite her sodomy law stance, she wasn’t anti-gay on the Dallas council), then she may be the best we’re likely to get. Sure, I’d prefer a libertarian like Judge Janice Rogers Brown, but she’d never get through the senate — social conservatives would be lukewarm, and the left with demonize her like nothing you’ve ever seen.

You remember Janice, right? I’ve posted about her before. But, in case you don’t remember let’s review.

Eleventh Circuit Court Justice William Pryor and California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown, in particular, have taken positions hostile to gay rights while on the bench.

Brown wrote that allowing gays and lesbians to legally adopt a partner’s biological child, “trivializes family bonds.”

So, here’s a woman who’s on record as being opposed to our families, and Miller wants her on the court?

I’m guessing it’s for reasons he deems more important than gay & lesbian equality, or because Miller — whom I believe is a libertarian — believes that the courts aren’t the proper venue for seeking equality in the first place, so Brown would be an effective deterrent to taking that route. But I’m still having a hard time getting my brain around it.

Maybe I need someone to explain it to me real slow. Explain it to me like I was four years old. Then again, a four year old might just be able to see how little sense it makes.

Miller is about as “libertarian” as Richard Nixon. He has also been the Number One spokesman of the “too much, too soon” crowd of self-loathing gays.

Terrance, I don’t understand Republican Gays any better than I understand Republican Women. (”Subjigate me! Please! Ooo…that makes me feel soooooo feminine!”)

    I know the old standby’s…internalizaing self-hatred, etc.

If you ever get a better explanation, please pass it along. I’m all curiosity.
