Georgia Equality Rocks
News stories like this one are almost enough to stir some remotes sense of pride in being from Georgia. Or at least being gay and from Georgia.
Georgia Equality, which staged a billboard campaign just months ago in parts of Midtown, have launched phase two this week. Though the message remains the same: “We are your neighbors,” the location is decidely different.
This time, though, Georgia Equality placed the billboard where their neighbors are not only sure to see it, but quite sure to talk about it.
The poster bears the message “I fight for your freedom … an I’m gay,” and features a picture of a gay veteran.
Of course, I don’t expect most of the folks in my former home state to get it. Some of the “man in the street” remarks about the billboard don’t exactly inspire hope. Nor does the wrap-up in which the anchor announces that the gay veteran pictured on the billboard used to live in Georgia “but has since moved to Seattle.” Yeah. Well, if your face is on a billboard in south Georgia, announcing that you’re gay, leaving town — or the state — might be the smart thing to do.
Nonetheless, big kudos to Georgia Equality for putting it out there.
