Peacebang has the following to say about a friend’s comment on Brokeback Mountain, but it resonates on so many other levels that it’s worth repeating here. 

People, the way our culture allows or disallows stories of people’s real lives to be told is a justice issue.

When the majority population dictates the terms of the depictions of real life, we not only suffer for it artistically, we suffer for it morally.

I can think of several places to take that message, perhaps starting with the National Endowment for the Humanities.
