Open Thread — Blog Mojo Shortage

I’m feeling a little tapped out on news a politics this morning, folks. I suppose I could blog about the Alito hearing, but they are plenty of bloggers covering that more effectively than I probably could.

So, I thought I’d post an open thread even though doing that always makes me a little worried that maybe no one will comment. But I’m doing it anyway.

What’s on your minds today, folks?

Maybe I’ll get my mojo back this afternoon.

What is up with these religious zealots and Ford Motor Company, aren’t they about to fold and why do we as same gender loving people care if they advertise in our publications?

The day’s almost over and still no mojo. I’m having one of those days when I look at the world and ask "Why bother?" Usually, I go home, look at my son, and get an answer to that question.

Today, even with that answer, I feel like taking another look at the world and asking "How?"

Don’t have an answer to that one yet.

  3. E.C. says:

Hi, Jaqua.  (And sorry you’re feeling down, T.  I empathize.)  Personally, I think the issue revolves more around the fact that the zealots would inevitably see the removal of Ford’s advertisement from our publications as a victory and would start pressuring more companies to discriminate, and some of those companies (even ones we like) might be stupid enough to believe that the zealots are that powerful.  Other than that, I’d have to say that on a personal level, I agree, you’re right on.

why do we as same gender loving people care if they advertise in our publications?

The answer is we care for the same reason the religious zealots care; because without advertising or publications don’t exist, and if they don’t exist then the message and infomration they carry don’t get out. If the religious zealots can convince enough major corporations and other businesses not to advertise to our community, our own media resources get significantly smaller, as does our voice.

They know this. That’s why they don’t give up.

Like I’ve said before, religious zealots like the AFA want a world in which we don’t exist; one in which we are not seen and we are not heard.

Terrance.  Every day is not a party.  But one day at a time, one step at a time, the universe is on our side.  Most great changes happen through erosion; slowly, but inexorably.  Just think of the world as developmentally disabled.

Like I posted on another thread, and on Shakespeare’s Sister the other night: many of us on the left are just suffering from Bush Burnout.

There’s so much crap to cover that it’s nearly impossible to keep up with it all. In the 90′s, the right could always just yell "blowjob!" like some orally-fixated Turrette’s sufferer, because that was the main focus of their attack.

We’ve got an entire war, illegal spying, corruption, nutjobs being appointed to the Supreme Court, religious bigots, environmental issues, torture …

It’s like a highway crammed full of cars, bumper to bumper, each one jampacked with something just as infuriating (if not more so) than the one in front of it. We keep hoping for that massive pile up, but it never seems to happen. Instead, the ones we’re after manange to make it through, somehow. All we can hope is that they take the next exit … and soon.

The Mrs. told me a few nights ago that, when I’m covering politics for a period of time I get testy. That’s why my last few blog entires have been more general and lighthearted. That, and just like T I’m running out of energy.

It’s like we all need a blogging Red Bull … or something.

Yeah. I’m gonna play with Parker until it’s time for him to go to bed. Then I’m gonna play computer games, or catch up on my reading. No blogs and no news for me tonight.

Is it just me, or has it been a particularly depressing month? Did anyone pick up on the tax refund scandal of the IRS, withholding returns from poor people for no cause? I guess there are just too many scandals to go on about.

No mojo here either. Can I come play with Parker too?
