Like the Force, portion control is a powerful ally. My 100 calorie prepackaged snacks are Chips Ahoy cookies and Pop-Secret popcorn. Whoever come up with idea for Nabisco must have gotten a huge bonus.

Cindy Sheehan... The sob sister protesting the war at Bush's ranch, who lost her son in the war, the same son she gave up in her divorce when he was 7 years old. She never had anything to do with that son after the divorce and he was raised by his father and stepmother. She never saw him after he was 7 years old, but our mainstream press never tells anyone that.

And by the way if you wonder why she has so much free time ... She is going through another divorce right now and guess what? She is giving up custody of another son.

As Forest Gump once wisely proclaimed, "Stupid is as stupid does."

It is nice to know- that despite the attempts of haters out there- the fundamentals of the Constitution still hold up in even the most conservative states. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, all men are created equal, separation of church and state, are ideals worth living by.

I would have to agree with Alex's comment above. The Left Hand of Darkness is simply stunning, though I would also recommend LeGuin's The Dispossessed. But I would probably put Butler's Kindred above both of those. It's a pretty quick read, also.

I'm currently reading Zadie Smith's On Beauty and I just got Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy (which is arguably more popular than Harry Potter in England!) for my birthday.

Ok, you lost me on this one.

It reads like your saying the Republicans are upset because a Democrat didn't win? Come again?

Wasn't Nagin a life long Republican before becoming Mayor?
Didn't he campaign for a Republican candidate for Governor, Bobby Jindal?

Now to tell the truth I have no idea if Nagin was/is a good Mayor or not. And that I'll leave up to the good people of New Orleans.

Nor do I know if Landrieu would have been a good Mayor, though I do know his father was a good civil rights role model.

What I do know is people, (not black people) PEOPLE have a nasty habit of voting against their self interests. I would agree that bringing up Barry was a low blow, but in terms of people voting against their self interests, it is a good example.

But for me Barry is small time. If one seeks an outstanding example of people voting against their self interests one need look no further the The President of the United States.

Hey!

I was one of the bloggers for Adoption.com. I should mention that I often blogged (unknowingly) about the stupidity of my Asian American gay friends having so much trouble with adopting from China and my Korean American professor friend being barred from adopting from Korea because she's single! I was never censored at all by the parent company, but when I found out about the court case, I immediately resigned...and since my blog (The Fertility Blog) was actually really popular, they just erased my name and hired someone else to take over (although I will note, the first comment when the new person started was "Where's Marie" (and the reply was something to the effect of me seeking greener pastures whiel I made it QUITE explicit why I was leaving).

Anyway, now I'm free and unfettered and my inner FertilityBitch is free range. Please come by and visit: GreenFertility.blogspot.com. I love your site, and good luck to you.

Maybe it's just me, but as a mixed-race, white-identified expatriat Southerner, I do not think of African-Americans when I read or hear the word "tar baby." I think of a morality tale instead. Go ahead and feel superior to Snow for using the word, but I'm much more saddened to hear young Black kids calling each other "nigga this" and "nigga that" on a daily basis as I traverse around my city.
