“Tortured Soul”

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

Maybe I’m a hardass, but it doesn’t mean much to me that a criminal will be "tormented for the rest of his life" by his crimes (or at least by the fact that he got caught). He can just endure that same torment in a cell.

Is It Fitzmas Yet?

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

Apparently, this is just breaking. Karl Rove has been indicted on charges of perjury and lying to investigators.

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald spent more than half a day Friday at the offices of Patton Boggs, the law firm representing Karl Rove.
During the course of that meeting, Fitzgerald served attorneys for former Deputy White House Chief of […]

Justice for Dwan Prince

Monday, April 24th, 2006

I wrote about Dwan Prince’s gay-bashing earlier. Today there was some justice in the case, as one of his attackers was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his part in the attack. The beating left Prince in a coma for more than a month, and he still suffers brain damage as a result of […]

Whole Lotta Shootin’ Going On?

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

I haven’t said much yet about the whole Cheney shooting incident. After all, there are plenty of people working ovetime to flog that one for all it’s worth. (And well they should.) I have my own questions. Was Cheney drinking? It’s well known the man has heart problems (possibly a lack of one). Was he […]

If police officers get paid to have sex, in order to in order to bust prostitutes (who also exchange sexual services for money) doesn’t that make the cops prostitutes too?

Friday, December 16th, 2005

No, not for me. I don’t need one. Yet.
Via Scott comes word that the Chalice Blog is seeking help from anyone who knows how to set up a legal defense fund; for Corey Maye, specifically. I’m posting it because I know there are a some legal minds out there who read this blog, but also […]

On Letting Them Change the Subject

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

I haven’t blogged yet about the next big capitol punishment case to be taken up in the blogosphere; that of Corey Maye, a black man on death row in Mississippi, whose case can be summarized as follows.
Let’s summarize: Cops mistakenly break down the door of a sleeping man, late at night, as part of […]

Times Up for Tookie

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

I’m writing this at about 10:30 pm Monday night, for posting Tuesday morning. By the time this is posted, Tookie Williams — co-founder of the street gang known as the Crips — will have been executed by the state of California. I’ve written before about my opposition to the death penalty, but I haven’t blogged […]

Lucas Dawson, Dwan Prince, and Us

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Over a week ago, I posted about the story of Lucas Dawson, the Philadelphia black gay man who defended himself with a knife against seven gay bashers, stabbing one of them who later died of his wounds. The story appears to be spreading. There’s an interview with Dawson available online. Keith has a post […]

Another “Cool Mom” Caught

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

In the same week that Silvia Johnson’s 30 year sentence for giving drugs and alcohol to teenage boys and having sex with them makes news, we now have the story of a 37 year old “cool mom” and her involvement with a 15-year-old. However, Lisa Lynette Clark does Silvia Johnson one better. She married her […]

Andrea Yates’ New Trial

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

The folks over at Independent Sources are upset that Andrea Yates is getting a new trial.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has refused to reconsider a lower court decision that overturned the capital murder convictions of Andrea Yates.
A prosecutor said the case of the Houston woman — who drowned her five […]

Friday, November 4th, 2005

Here’s a bit of information that ought to give any parent with teenagers something to think about. There’s a one in five chance that your kid has a blog.

Nearly three in five school-age teens with Internet access have created online content, including Web pages with artwork, photos and stories — and about a fifth have […]

Indictment Watch

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

Nothing yet, but the Washington Post reports that White House aides are bracing themselves.

Also, not to rain on anyone’s parade, but TalkLeft has posted an interesting scenario in which Rove could slip the noose.

I’m beginning to think it possible that Karl Rove either is not going to be charged in the Valerie Plame Leak investigation, […]
