Wow, Calories Really Do Count

Friday, May 19th, 2006

I almost hesitate to write about this, because the subjects of diet and weight are pretty well loaded. But I saw this over on the miniblog at Waveflux, it struck me funny because I am one of those people who buys that food in 100 calorie packages.

The message is clear: Don’t open that big Pandora’s […]

Brain Busted

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

I always suspected it, now I hear there’s a study that damn near proves it: my brain is working against me.

As you dash outdoors in the middle of winter, you might make it halfway down the block before realizing that your ears are freezing because you forgot your hat.
Now, scientists have shown that even though […]

Revision Revisited

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

Remember that book? Yeah, I know. I kind of forgot about it too.

The manuscript of the novel I wrote during NaNoWriMo last year has been sitting on my desk since the beginning of this year. When I pulled it out of the drawer that had been its home since the end of November, I […]

The Distracted Pre-Schooler

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

I came across something interesting this weekend, while I was thumbing through the album my parents put together of my baby photos and accomplishments, etc. I couldn’t help but chuckle, reading it as an adult, and in the context of my Adult ADD diagnosis.

In the first few pages I came across a letter from my […]

Open Thread, Re-Entering the Blogosphere

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

After four days away from the blogosphere, during which at least three or four major stories broke, I don’t know what to blog about, or what to say that someone else hasn’t already.

So, how about an open thread? Anybody out there?

Dad & Me

Friday, May 5th, 2006

Dad’s funeral is today at noon. I spent some time yesterday pouring over old photo albums to find some pictures of him and me together.

This is probably my favorite picture of dad & me. He’s apparently coming home from a boy scout meeting. I can’t be much older than two in that picture, but I […]

In the Air

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

As this post goes live, I’m somewhere between Washington, D.C. and Georgia, en route to my hometown for my dad’s funeral. Given the nature of the visit and how busy it’s likely to be, posting will be sporadic at best, from now through Saturday.

Life Updates

Monday, May 1st, 2006

My dad’s obituary was published in our hometown paper on Saturday. I leave for Georgia on Wednesday, to attend the funeral on Friday. In other news, we got an update on the house. It should be ready by mid-May, and with any luck we’ll move in around the end of the month.

On the House

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on the house. Well, it’s nearly ready. It’s been a long time since the whole thing started back in September, with the demolition of the old house that was sitting on the property. Now it’s looking like will be moving in within six to eight weeks. […]

Too High a Price

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

it’s probably going to be disregarded by some people — the ones who are mostly unreachable anyway — but the ACLU and the Child Welfare League of America have written the book on gay parenting; the newest one anyway, and it seems appropriate to mention it at the end of a week when there’s been a […]

Thanks Tweakers

Friday, April 21st, 2006

I will now join zuzu in venting a bit of spleen in general direction of tweakers.
It’s allergy season for me, and it hits me pretty hard. Within minutes of walking outside, I can feel the effects. I noticed them this morning on the train, even though I took my allergy medicine before leaving the house. […]

What’s an Absolute Beginner Yogi to Do?

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

I have something of a dilemma. After achieving success with the diet, I’ve now added some exercise to my daily routine. (Besides the exercise I get chasing Parker around, etc.)
After some consideration, I unpacked my yoga tapes and accoutrements (mat, strap, bricks, pad) from a previous abortive attempt at taking it up. I tried […]

Sometimes the News is Bad

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Some may have noticed a slow-down in blogging here over the last few days. There are a few reasons for it, but the main one is that my mind has been on other things lately.
A while back I wrote about the importance of getting treatment for reflux, because it can lead to cancer as […]

The Adult ADD Reading List

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but (naturally) I forgot about it until a reader emailed me a request for some recommended reading for adults with ADD. I’ve always been an avid reader, and that dovetails with an ADD-related ability to hyperfocus on something I’m interested in, to the exclusion of nearly […]
